Story
of a Deep Sea Diver
It was like ice hitting me, slashing
my entire body within an instant, no idea which way was up, or down. I
started to adapt to the unusually cold water surrounding me. My eyes were
still closed.
Slowly, I opened my eyes to see I
was facing the surface. I flipped around, and there it was, the deep blue
ocean, and an even more beautiful reef.
I only had twenty minutes to enjoy
the beauty I had down here. Slowly swimmer through the water I took out my
camera and photographed the under water creatures living here.
I spotted a tunnel entry and couldn't
believe my eyes, a mermaid? Surely not, they don't exist. But I have always
had an open mind about things. Though, this was too far fetched.
I travelled on into the watery depths
and there, once again, I saw the sight of a mermaid.
Fifteen minutes left, I decided to
follow her. Camera at the ready so I could observe it after I was out of the
water. If I got a photograph, that is.
Kicking hard I managed to keep up
with her, all I could see of her was her tail though, but it was still
something. She swam as if she was trying to get away from me.
After thinking for a moment, it made
perfect sense why she was trying to get away from me, I was a human and she
was a mermaid. I would try and catch her, when she was merrily swimming
along.
It would be a bit mean, but I thought
to swim around the other side of the reef wall, separating her and myself,
then surprise her at the other side and get a photograph. Perfect!
Picking up speed, I torpedoed through
the water to the other side of the wall.
She hadn't come out the other side
yet so there was still a chance to get the picture. As I came to the end of
the reef wall, excitement and adrenaline filled my body, I turned to see
into around the other side of the wall and hopefully the mermaid.
The camera flashed! I had gotten the
mermaid. This was so exciting...
I only had a mere two minutes before
my oxygen was used up!
Faster than I had chased the mermaid,
or raced her to the end of the wall, I kicking diagonally up to the boat and
the surface, tiring out ever second, exhaustion filling my body... my head
nearly at the surface... breathing heavy and...
The surface was broken and I felt relieved.
Paddling over to the boat with a smile on my face, I felt proud, and also
disappointed in my self for startling the mermaid.
I showed the photograph to my
assistant and he look at me with a strange face. "There's nothin'
'ere!" he exclaimed. I slashed out a grabbed the camera, it can't be,
the mermaid wasn't there!
I searched through all of my
photographs, but it wasn't there. My excitement turned into disappointment
and hopelessness.
Maybe some things just shouldn't be
messed with. Maybe some things are jus too magic.
