The
Great Race
Three animals came to race each other to
see who was the fastest. The kangaroo, the tiger and the
cheetah.
They were about to start, when the turtle
came up to them and asked, "Can I race with you
too?"
But the kangaroo replied, "Your much
to slow, you could never win," "But that doesn't
matter, I want to do it for fun!" said the turtle.
"If you really want to you can," said the
kangaroo.
So the race started and all the animals
went as fast as they could except the turtle.
The cheetah was in the lead, followed by
the tiger and kangaroo racing far behind. The turtle all
the way at the back, just past the starting line.
But the cheetah slowly came to a stop,
because he used up all of his energy. So he went and sat
under a big, shady tree for a break.
The kangaroo had over taken the tiger and
had gone on to win the race. He passed the tiger like a
speeding bullet but he also slowed to a holt. he slowly
hopped to the dam and had a big drink.
The tiger was confident as he ran by,
because he saw the cheetah and the kangaroo out of
the race.
Meanwhile, he turtle was passing the
cheetah who had fallen asleep.
The tiger started to just jog, but he wasn't
going to give up just yet. He wanted to win and prove he
was the fastest.
The kangaroo had drunk so much,
his stomach
was too full to run.
The turtle kept going to see the kangaroo
sitting on the ground holding his stomach. He too
wanted to win now, but he just kept walking slowly.
The tiger had slowed to a walk now and he
too had to have a drink so he found a dam a bit further
down the track. He had a drink and started walking again
nearly falling over.
The turtle kept walking, catching up to
the tiger. He nearly passed him when the tiger lay down
breathing heavily. The turtle walked and passed the tiger
and finally got to the finish line.
But the cheetah and the kangaroo got up
again and started racing. The turtle walked over the
finish line and won the race.
"But how did you beet us?" asked
the cheetah at the finish line. "You guys all stopped
to have a rest and I kept walking," answered the
turtle.
The moral to this story is 'slow and
steady wins the race'.
